The students who are keen to become certified nursing aide have to undergo a mandatory CNA program as per the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, 1987. The students of Tennessee who want to become certified nursing aides can look for recognized Tennessee CNA programs approved by Tennessee Board of Nursing. A quick glance, the certified nursing aides are the qualified individuals who handle the responsibility of caring the patients.

There are some federal requirements to apply for any of the CNA programs such as the age of the students must be 18 years or more, a student must have a prior criminal background check and the student should not be infected with any communicable diseases. Thereafter, the students can apply for a recommended CNA program from a reputed CNA school.

The total duration of the CNA program in Tennessee is 135 hours. It is inclusive of 75 hours of classroom instructions and 60 hours of practical training. The classroom part makes the students aware of various duties and responsibilities. The clinical training will give the students the essential knowledge of skills a certified nursing aide should have. Following are the important aspects covered in the CNA program:

  • Physiology
  • Anatomy
  • Restorative care
  • Nursing skills
  • Patients’ mobility and independence
  • Patients’ rights

After finishing the course, the students have to pass the competence examination to get the complete certification. The exam has two parts, written and performance tests. On passing the exam successfully, the students get their name registered in the Tennessee Nurse Aide Registry.
