Nursing Assistant Certification Status

Do you know about the expiration of your CNA certificate?

Certificates generally display their expiration date but it may not be the case with every certificate due to different policies of states. But in most of the states the validity period of the CNA certificate is 24 months. Beyond this period you must get it renewed. You could also call or access the online verification system available on your state’s CNA registry website to check the status of your CNA certificate.

I have previously completed a CNA course back in Aug, 1999 after which I worked in a doctor’s office for 30 months before quitting in 2002. I haven’t used the CNA certificate since then. I wish to know whether I can take the CNA re-test online? Or else could you give me some contact number to get some information regarding the re-test? I live in Fremont, North Carolina and completed CNA course at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, North Carolina and later I worked in Goldsboro, North Carolina at Primecare Physicians.

You are required to retake the nurse aide in order to have an active nurse aide status on the North Carolina CNA registry. To your disappointment you may not challenge the re-test online but only at one of the state-approved testing locations. The state contractor in North Carolina for administering the nursing aide examination is Pearson Vue. You must download the application form from here Application for Registration by Competency Examination. Fill up the form completely and submit any necessary documents along with it. For the eligibility route in your application I believe the last option is the most suitable to you (“North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry Candidates”). You could schedule the exam by selecting one of these available exam locations: Regional Test Sites.
