Do you know who has the control over the practices of certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and responsible for regulating the CNA training and academic programs in the State of Washington? The Department of Health (DOH) along with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) share this responsibility where the latter is responsible in ensuring whether the nurse aides seeking employment in nursing homes are indeed qualified as per the federal requirements or not. The other responsibilities of DSHS department are to approve and monitor the nurse aide training programs/courses and also establishing testing criteria for the nurse aide state examination. On the other hand it is the responsibility of the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure whether a certified nurse aide satisfies all the state requirements for employment as a nursing aide or not. DOH is also in charge of issuing you the nurse assistant certification once you have passed the nursing assistant state exam.

Do you have an idea about the salary of a CNA working in the Washington State? You must get to know that the median salary of a CNA employed in a nursing home in 2008 was around $25,000 per annum.

Nursing assistant programs prepare the aspirants for challenging and succeeding the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in the field of health care. Each state holds the authority to decide the number of hours of training in a nursing assistant course, as long as the minimum federal prerequisite of seventy-five hours is met. There are ample of choices available with the students when it comes to attending the CNA classes as they can select a training facility of their choice.

Nursing assistant programs are conducted at nursing homes, private and vocational schools too. Individual training facility decides upon the cost of the program, program length and admission requirements. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. The eligibility criteria to receive the reimbursement are: Individual must have paid for his/her nursing assistant coaching classes and he/she must have been employed by the nursing home within a year of obtaining the certification. Nursing assistant programs/courses are relatively of short duration and inexpensive nature unlike the other training programs in the field of health care. You must aim to get the state certification as a CNA in order to work as a nurse aide.
