As it has been mandatory by the government of United States in 1987 that the candidates want to become nursing aide have to undergo a CNA program. This regulation applies to state of Missouri also. The students who are willing to become certified nursing aides have to go through Missouri CNA program approved by Department of Health and Senior Services.

The CNA program in Missouri has total duration of 175 hours which is inclusive of 75 hours of classroom learning and 100 hours of clinical training. The classroom study makes the students aware of various aspects of nursing such as basic nursing care, fire safety and disaster training, social and psychological care, infection control, restorative care and others. The clinical hands on experience expose the students to the practical skills required by the nursing aides while dealing with patients.

Various practical skills are covered during the clinical training such as measuring temperature, blood pressure, pulse rates, regularly monitoring the patients, taking care of the patients’ nutrition and other necessary tasks. After completing the CNA program, the students become eligible for the competence examination held by the Missouri state. The students must pass this examination to get the certification.

The competence examination has two parts i.e. written and performance test. The written part consists of multiple choice questions which deal with duties and responsibilities of nursing aide. On the other hand, the performance part evaluates the students’ skills needed to take basic and hygienic care of the students. After passing the exam successfully, the students get their names placed in Missouri State Nurse Aide Registry.
