It was made mandatory by the US government in 1987 that those willing to become certified nursing aides have to go through a CNA program. The students of New Jersey can look for good CNA programs from a recognized school of CNA. Just for quick info, a certified nursing aide is a person responsible for caring the patients in hospitals and clinics. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services approve numerous CNA programs held in state.

To apply for a New Jersey CNA program, a student must be 18 years or older and he should have either GED or high school diploma. The CNA program in New Jersey is of 90 hours duration. It consists of 50 hours of classroom learning and 40 hours of clinical hands on experience. The CNA program of New Jersey covers the following aspects:

  • Basic nursing care
  • Restorative care
  • Patients’ rights
  • Infection control
  • Emergency care


On completion of the CNA program, the students have to challenge the competence examination held by New Jersey State to get the certification. The examination has two parts i.e. written and performance tests. The written part consists of duties and responsibilities of nursing aide. The performance test is designed to evaluate the necessary skills to be performed the nursing assistant.

After passing the exam successfully, the students get their names placed in the New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry after which they can begin practicing in a hospital, nursing home or any other long term care facility. And really, one can earn a decent salary package after becoming a certified nursing aide in New Jersey.
